Travel
As an excellent tourism city in China, Wuhan holds Wuhan International Tourism Festival annually. There are 339 places of historic interest, 103 revolutionary memorials, 13 Important Historical Monuments under Special Preservation, 3 5A tourist attractions and 15 4A tourist attractions. In addition, Wuhan has 166 lakes and numerous mountains which are rare in other metropolises. Some popular tourist attractions are Yellow Crane Tower, Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, East Lake, Hubei Provincial Museum and Guiyuan Buddhist Temple.
Yellow Crane Tower
Yellow Crane Tower, located near the Southern end of Yangtze River Bridge, is one of China’s most famous towers. Yellow Crane Tower is one of the most famous places of interest in China, and also one of the best ancient architectures. Originally used as a watch tower in ancient times, it has inspired many ancient poets and artists. Well known poet Li Bai wrote during the Tang Dynasty :“My old friend, bids farewell to me in the west at Yellow Crane Tower. Amid April’s mist and flowers, he goes down to Yangzhou. His distant image disappears in blue emptiness. And all I see is the long river flowing to the edge of the sky. ” As the foremost symbol of Wuhan, the original Yellow Crane Tower is said to exist as early as the 3rd Century. It has been destroyed and rebuilt several times. The current reconstruction was completed in 1986.
Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge
Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge is located on the Yangtze River, between Wushang snake Hill and Hanyang Kameyama which is the first double-track railway and first Highway dual purpose bridge in New China, it was used since 15th October in 1957, so it is known as the “first bridge of the Yangtze River” because of its great significance. It became the city landmark of Wuhan since the bridge was built. Yangtze River Bridge became the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units in May 3rd, 2013 and it was rated as “first batch of Chinese 20th century architectural heritage” list in September, 2016.
East Lake
East Lake,located in Wuchang district, is rated as one of the top national attractions and is also the pride and joy of the people of Wuhan. Many of the residents enjoy walking along the lakeside in spring, swimming in summer, smelling the sweet laurels in autumn and admiring the plum trees in winter. The lake covers 33 square kilometers and stretches as far as the eye can see. Ancient pavilions and pagodas scattered throughout the 34 hills around the lake make this scenic spot historic and impressive. Due to abundant rainfall and sunshine as well as a humid climate, East Lake has rich botanical resources. Hubei Provincial Museum
Hubei Provincial Museum is the only provincial comprehensive museum in Hubei Province. It is also one of the eight state-level key museums built by the national museums, the central and local governments. The museum is an important part of the East Lake, which is rated by the National Tourism Administration as the national 5A-class tourist attractions. It locates on 156 East Lake Road, Wuchang District, Wuhan City in Hubei Province.
There are more than 230,000 pieces of collections and nearly a thousand pieces of national heritage in Hubei Provincial Museum. The prehistoric pottery as the representative of the Qujialing culture, and Shijiahe culture, the bronze as the representative of Panlongcheng and Zeng Houyi tomb, multiple lacquerware from the Spring and Autumn Period Chu tomb, large amounts of bamboo slips from Zeng Houyi tomb, Guodian Chu tomb, Wangshan Chu tomb, BaoShan Chu tomb, Yunmeng Qin tomb, military governors from Liangzhuang tomb and Yingjing tomb are the most prominent culture relics of Hubei Provincial Museum. Among the multiple collections above, the skull fossil of Yunxian County, the sword of Goujian, the chime bells of Zeng Houyi and blue and white vase of Yuan Dynasty is known as the four “treasures of the town” of Hubei Provincial Museum.
Guiyuan Buddhist Temple
Guiyuan Buddhist Temple is one of the most famous Buddhist temples in Wuhan. With deep religious significance and a striking architectural design, the temple houses a collection of items including 500 gilded Arhats, a jade Buddha, rare sutras, paintings, calligraphies and religious paraphernalia. The temple is today still used as a prayer center. Amitabha, Kwan-Yin Bodhisattva, Dashizhi Bodhisattva, the Wenshu Bodhisattva and Puxian Bodhisattva are worshiped near the northern courtyards, while Sakyamuni is prayed to in the central hall. In the central courtyard stands the Daxiong Baodian, said to be Sakyamuni in the form of a lion.
The East Lake Greenway
The East Lake Greenway, located in the East Lake Scenic Area of Wuchang District, with a total length of 101.98 kilometers. It is between the lakes and mountains and turns the East Lake into a “green heart” of the city.

Wuhan Art Museum
Wuhan Art Museum, located in the most prosperous center of Wuhan’s three towns, is located at the intersection of Nanjing Road, Huangshi Road and Zhongshan Road in Hankou. Wuhan Art Museum has a total construction area of 12,139 square meters. There are 7 exhibition halls with an exhibition area of 4,230 square meters and a total exhibition line of more than 1,100 meters. All exhibition halls use slide-type event panels and exhibition walls to make the exhibition display and layout more flexible,and more visual changes. An advanced lighting system is used in the exhibition hall to create an elegant artistic atmosphere.
The Wuhan Art Museum houses more than 1,000 works of modern Chinese to contemporary artists. The important collections are works of artists and manuscripts that have an influence on the development of art in Hubei Province, covering various art types such as Chinese painting, oil painting, watercolor, sculpture and photography. Including Li Shinan’s ink painting “Mountain House Series”, Zhuang Man’s collection of book tickets and so on. Since the opening of the new museum, the Wuhan Art Museum has held nearly 200 exhibitions for different audience groups, with an audience of about 1 million. The Wuhan Art Museum has gradually become an important cultural and art platform and art archives in Wuhan.
Wuhan Botanical Garden of Chinese Academy of Sciences
Wuhan Botanical Garden of Chinese Academy of Sciences (WBG), founded in 1956, is located on the Wuhan East Lakeshore and south of the Moshan Mountains. As one of three research-oriented botanical gardens in China, WBG’s mission is to develop and maintain plant collections for display, conservation, education and research. WBG has collected and cultivated more than 10,293 species of plants of the Central China region and other domestic aquatic plants. It is the most abundant plant species diversity and germplasm conservation base in Central China and is also a national AAAA-level scenic tourist area. It has 15 special-purpose parks, for example, the world’s largest kiwifruit specialty park, the world’s largest aquatic plant resource, the largest wild forest fruit genetic resource park in Central China, the ancient Chinese heritage and unique Rare plant resources special park, Huazhong medicinal plant special garden.
The park has landscape greenhouses, science museums, water clouds, flower trails, water forest windows, lotus water lily variety display areas, chrysanthemums and other boutique attractions, as well as seasonal flower shows, for example, spring tropical orchid exhibition, Dutch tulip flowers Exhibition, Peony Treasures Exhibition, Huazhong Du Fu Exhibition, China Peach Blossom Exhibition, Summer Aquatic Flower Show, Autumn Chrysanthemum Treasures Exhibition, Winter Camellia Tea Exhibition. This is a wonderful feast of plants and flowers.
